I believe that “instantly” is not synonymous of “well-done”. Sure, AI does it all and does so extremely quickly. Would you hire someone who claims that they can do every single job you ask them to?

It’s my first time working with an interpreter. What should I expect?

Am I expected to share sensitive information with you?
Interpreters are bound to maintain client confidentiality. When you work with me, this is always implied. We can come to a gentleman’s agreement, or sign an NDA for mutual peace of mind.
Additionally, during your multilingual event, conference, or business negotiation, I will be there the whole time, listening to what both parties say, and interpreting it from an into the languages involved. Providing relevant documents in advance facilitates my work, allows me to familiarise with company-specific terminology, which ultimately supports more accurate interpreting.

Why should an interpreter be briefed before a meeting?
A briefing is a strategic move for both the speakers/the company and the interpreter.
Briefings allow the interpreter to understand not just what is being said, but why it’s being said, what must not be mishandled, and where nuance matters more than speed.
You wouldn’t send a lawyer into a negotiation without a case file, or a sales lead into a meeting without knowing the client. Sending an interpreter in blind is no different.

How does an interpreting quote work?
My quotes are personalised per assignment. This allows for event-specific tailoring of my services, with no unexpected surprises for the both of us. I usually ask a series of questions to gauge the scope of your needs, then condense it all in an itemised, clear quote that leaves no room for doubt. Cost varies depending on the duration of the event, potential travel expenses, consulting for special equipment, and the recording of my interpretation.

Is dedicated equipment always needed?
No, it depends on the type of interpreting needed for the event. Simultaneous interpreting always requires some type of equipment
Consecutive interpreting only requires a microphone for the interpreter to speak the translation into.
Whispered interpreting usually goes hand in hand with consecutive, for the speaker to listen to my translation of questions. It can also be used in business meetings, in combination with consecutive.
